Description
This statue of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is exquisitely carved from oxidized copper. The bodhisattva is shown seated on a moon disc lotus seat, exuding a gentle expression and possessing four hands. In one pair of hands, he holds a flaming sword, symbolizing his power to cut through ignorance and negativity, while in the other pair, he carries a bow and arrow. He performs the ‘Vitarka Mudra,’ which signifies the transmission of Buddha’s teachings.
Manjushri, known as the Wisdom Bodhisattva, embodies wisdom as the path to enlightenment. In Mahayana Buddhism, he is closely associated with prajna, or profound insight. In Northern Buddhism’s Tantric literature, Manjushri is honored as a fully enlightened Buddha with numerous manifestations across all four divisions of Tantra, ranging from simple to complex forms. He is depicted in eleven distinct figurative forms, including Peaceful, Semi-peaceful, Wrathful, and those featuring animal attributes.
